Archives For Collaboration

This was an interesting project. Jazzfusion in 6/8 time. I haven’t played in anything other than the usual 4/4 for ages so would I find a working groove? Apparently the time studies back in the ’90s stuck ’cause I felt at home effortless right away. Cooking up this groove in a couple of minutes and sent a early sketch to mr Bennborn for review. He loved the bassline so from there it was just a matter of printing a good take.

JnGruvGearThe Watson SC-5 modified by UNICORNbass was used as usual. Fitted with the GruvGear Fretwraps. They’re small but addictive, I don’t record without them.
The pickups together with the electronics Christian Olsson put in the bass are a pure joy. Versatile and dead quiet! Ran the bass through the JoeMeek FloorQ straight into the Apogee Duet II and the DAW used is Presonus Studio One.

Original liner notes:

Let’s take six musicians and make something in 6/8ths – “Take Six” it is!

I’m very proud to present to you an original, spring-welcoming, smooth-flowing jazz piece, with some of the finest (jazz) musicians here on SC.

My immense gratitude goes to these guys jumping aboard without hesitation on basis of a sketchy idea I had – to forge a six man collaboration, upping the stakes of complexity. Coming out at the other end with another, great learning experience to behold and a track I will cherish.

Enjoy!

The Next chapter in the Peter Bennborn Project story, featuring myself on bass, this time also in a little solo spot.

For this song I delivered 5 separate bass tracks. The outcome is very different from the original sketches this time.

  1. The verses are played fingerstyle, Watson/Unicorn 5 string through JoeMeek FloorQ compressor. New strings on the bass.
  2. The slap bass in the choruses, Watson/Unicorn 5 string through JoeMeek FloorQ compressor. New strings on the bass.
  3. The sub octave in the choruses, played palm muted and retuned to low A. Watson/Unicorn 5 string through JoeMeek FloorQ compressor. New strings on the bass.
  4. The low bass during the solo. Fingerstyle Watson/Unicorn 5 string through 3leaf Audio Wonderlove with JoeMeek FloorQ compressor in the loop. Old strings
  5. The solo! Watson/Unicorn 5 string through JoeMeek FloorQ compressor. New strings on the bass.

Recorded in Presonus Studio One with Apogee Duet II.
